Among those who attended the White House‘s ceremony for the signing of the legislation codifying same-sex marriage were two drag queens, one of whom once tweeted: ‘The kids are out to sing and suck d!’
Another performed for a group of kids in a church in New York in August where ‘social pressure’ was put on students of Grace School to enjoy the show.
Marti G. Cummings, a New York City-based drag queen and activist, was pictured at the event alongside fellow drag queen, Brita Filter, at Biden’s event. Filter starred on season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Cummings posted pictures on their Instagram page showing them in men’s clothes on the White House lawn. On their Instagram bio, Cummings describes themselves as a ‘nonbinary drag artist.’
Earlier this year, Cummings tweeted: ‘The kids are out to sing and suck d!’ In another message they said: ‘Anyone who thinks drag isn’t for children is wrong.’

Also this year, Cummings posted a photo showing them with three fellow drag queens and a young child. The message read: ‘He wants to perform with us next year.’
In 2019, Cummings went viral after they were recorded singing the children’s song Baby Shark to a 2-year-old while wearing thigh-high boots and shorts.
On December 13, they posted from the White House: ‘Proud to be a drag artist in politics w my sister @thebritafilter representing at @whitehouse for the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act.’
Both performers are known for appearing for children at their controversial Drag Queen Story Hour. Just a week ago, Cummings posted a photo at one such performance alongside the caption: ‘Despite what conservatives say this family friendly event is a way to spread joy, teach acceptance and love.’
They continued: ‘A way to bring people together. Kids just want to hear their favorite stories…keep spreading hate because I’m gonna keep spreading joy.’
In 2020, Cummings tweeted: ‘F the police’ and ‘Yes, we want to defund the police. Yes, we want to abolish ICE. No, we won’t settle for anything less. We’ll continue to fight for this to happen.’

Brita Filter appeared in drag at the December 13 event while Marti Cummings’ wore more traditional clothing.
The drag queen also promoted a coffee brand named ACAB Coffee. ACAB is an acronym meaning: ‘All Cops Are B******s.’
Cummings regularly posted anti-police messages on their social media.

In August, Brita Filter performed for students at Grace Church High School, an independent Episcopal school that costs $57,000 a year.
‘There was tons of social pressure to dance along and pretend like it was normal for sure,’ one unnamed student told The Post Millennial, ‘whether it be people tapping on shoulders and telling them to stand up or just a collective staring contest at whoever wasn’t totally participating.’
Another student said: ‘Immediately upon entering, there was a person handing out stickers with Pride flags on them unironically saying “take one or you’re homophobic.”‘

Both Cummings and Filter have performed for young audiences, with Cummings routinely putting on kids shows in progressives communities like Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Cummings wrote on their Instagram page on the day of the event: ‘Y’all MAGA cult crazies get pissed about a tweet where I call my friends “kids” and twist it to fit your narrative but don’t wanna do anything to stop gun violence…’
They went on: ‘All the right has to go on is bigoted talking points. Give it a rest. Oh & stop sending me death threats thanks.’

Cummings also posted a photo of a message they received showing a noose accompanied by the words: ‘This is your future.’
Biden’s backing of drag queens comes after Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – who could be his 2024 White House rival – tried to make drag shows a culture war issue earlier this year.
DeSantis said he would be filing a complaint after a video showed a child in the audience of a Florida drag brunch, in which one of the queens was exposing naked, but clearly fake, large breasts.
The queen covers up her breasts as they spots a child seated front row, according to a video shared by the conservative Libs of TikTok account.
‘This is what a “family-friendly drag show” in a bar looks like,’ the post said

At a press conference in late July, DeSantis said ‘having kids involved in this is wrong. That is not consistent with our law and policy in the state of Florida’ and suggested that the restaurant in question, R House in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, could lose its liquor license.
A statement from the restaurant’s owners called it a ‘misunderstanding.’
Previewing the bill signing from the podium Monday, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre teased that there would be musical guests and entertainment at the South Lawn event, but wouldn’t give reporters more information than that.
First lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff were also attendance.
The legislation came about after Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, in a concurring opinion to Dobbs – which overturned Roe v. Wade in June – said that other cases based on the precedent that had been established in Roe should be revisited, including the 2015 landmark gay marriage decision Obergefell v. Hodges.
The Respect for Marriage Act officially repeals the Defense of Marriage Act, the Clinton-era legislation that banned federal recognition of same-sex marriage.
It requires the federal government to recognize same-sex and interracial marriages, codifying parts of Obergefell and the landmark 1967 case Loving v. Virginia.
The House of Representatives passed the bill in July, with the help of 47 Republicans.
The bill had more difficulty getting through the Senate, where 60 votes are needed for cloture, but eventually 12 Republicans signed on.
The bill passed the Senate last last month after amendments were added to bolster religious protections and clarify that it did not legalize polygamous marriages.
The House then passed the updated version on Thursday.
