Question: In A Recent Audio You Said Bible Based Doctrine Was The Rock. But Isn’t Christ The True Rock Himself?

Donald Bohanon: Absolutely, but as scripture states, if we don’t have the doctrine God gave to Christ to give to us, we don’t have the father or the son. 2 John 1:9-11. Paul tells us in Romans 16:17-18 that we are to avoid anyone who causes divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine we’ve learned that God gave to Christ to give to us, because they don’t serve the lord Jesus Christ, they only serve their own bellies.

The Bible also tells us that if anyone teaches for doctrine the commandments of men they are worshipping Christ in vain Mark 7:7-9. So the point is, if we don’t have and follow the doctrine God gave to Christ to give to us, we don’t have Christ or God.

So in that context the doctrine is the rock also because it’s the only way to access God and Christ who are the spiritual rocks. Without the doctrine, we don’t have access to God or Christ, so the doctrine is the foundational rock that leads to the spiritual rock, if that makes sense. So, without the foundational rock, which is the doctrine, we don’t have access to the spiritual rock, which is Christ and God.

The foundational rock gives us access to and leads us to the spiritual rock who is Christ who gave us the doctrine God gave him to give to us. That’s why Christ tells us that anyone who hears his sayings, or his words, or the doctrine, he gave to us from God and follows it, he will liken him to a man who built his house on a rock/foundational rock, which are his sayings and or the doctrine he taught. Christ is the spiritual rock and the doctrine is the foundational rock which gives access to the spiritual rock. Without the foundational rock/ doctrine we don’t have access to the father or the son as scripture clearly states.
