Candice Wiggins, the former Stanford University basketball star who retired from professional basketball last year, claimed she was targeted for harassment during an eight-year WNBA career because she was heterosexual.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wiggins, who turned 30 last week, described the \u201cvery, very harmful\u201d culture of the WNBA in an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune published on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t like my dreams came true in the WNBA. It was quite the opposite,\u201d said Wiggins, who announced her retirement last March while considering a contract extension from the New York Liberty. \u201cI wanted to play two more seasons of WNBA, but the experience didn\u2019t lend itself to my mental state.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a depressing state in the WNBA. It\u2019s not watched. Our value is diminished. It can be quite hard. I didn\u2019t like the culture inside the WNBA, and without revealing too much, it was toxic for me.<\/strong><\/p>\n
