However, as encouraging as this number is, it does not take into account the Labor Participation rate, which remained at its lowest level since 1977.<\/p>\n<p>The Labor Department reported that a healthy 271,000 jobs were added during October, up from 142,000 gained during September, when the unemployment rate stood at 5.1 percent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-extras related\">\n<div class=\"left\">\n<div class=\"sponsor\">\n<p class=\"ad-notice\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1429051953149-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Business Insider <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/average-hourly-wages-october-2015-2015-11\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> that average hourly earnings also grew at 2.5 percent between Oct. 2014 and Oct. 2015, which is the highest growth rate seen since before the Great Recession.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265015\" src=\"http:\/\/westernjournalismcom.c.presscdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Unemployment-Rate-October.jpg\" alt=\"Image Credit: New York Times\" width=\"700\" height=\"297\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he unemployment rate is close to what would normally be considered the threshold for full employment by the Fed and many private economists.\u00a0However, the so-called slack that built up in the labor market after the recession has altered traditional calculations of how far unemployment can fall before the job market tightens and the risk of inflation rises,\u201d according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/07\/business\/economy\/jobs-report-hiring-unemployment-october.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-extras trending\">\n<div class=\"left\">\n<div class=\"sponsor\">\n<p class=\"ad-notice\">Advertisement<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1429051953149-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>CNBC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2015\/11\/06\/chart-whats-the-real-unemployment-rate.html\" target=\"_blank\">notes <\/a>that many economists like to look to the U-6 unemployment figure, which takes into account part-time workers who would like to be working full-time. October\u2019s U-6 rate was 9.8 percent, which is a drop of 2 tenths from September.<\/p>\n<p>Another figure that is of great concern when considering the current employment numbers is the low labor participation rate. The Bureau of Labor Statistics <a href=\"http:\/\/data.bls.gov\/timeseries\/LNS11300000\" target=\"_blank\">reported <\/a>that rate remained unchanged in October at a stubborn 62.4 percent. That figure is approximately 4 percentage points lower than prior to the Great Recession.
