The $77.80 bill included late fees and fines assessed by the city.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Menefield was in tears when she was handcuffed by two Valley police officers in December 2022. Her arrest sparked outrage around the country. She initially thought the officers were joking. \u201cYou\u2019re not kidding?\u201d she said, speaking to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/news\/you-ought-to-be-ashamed-82-year-old-alabama-woman-says-arrest-over-77-trash-bill-was-unjust-unnecessary\/\" target=\"_blank\">KTLA<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe cuffs, they were so heavy,\u201d she said, adding that she was grateful her grandchildren weren\u2019t there to see her taken into custody. She was later released on bond.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Valley\u2019s chief of police, Mike Reynolds, defended the arrest&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-au\/news\/crime\/alabama-woman-is-handcuffed-and-arrested-over-unpaid-dollar77-trash-collection-bill\/ar-AA14QlX0\" target=\"_blank\">in a post<\/a>&nbsp;on the city\u2019s Facebook page.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Houston native Trae the Truth was among those outraged over Menefield\u2019s arrest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sandrarose.com\/images37\/martha-menefield-745x427.jpg\" alt=\"Photo may have been deleted\"\/><figcaption>Google Map<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The humble rapper traveled to Valley to meet Ms. Menefield personally. He upgraded her home, spending $15,000 on new furniture and other necessities for the house.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trae has plans to buy a new car for Menefield.
